Let's get real for a sec!

Tonight I took my son to the local Wal-mart to get him a birthday cake. While we were waiting our chance to check out, he was standing on the side of the cart checking out the surroundings. As I was standing there  dozing off,  I realized that kenan had his eyes locked on a magazine. When I looked to see what he was looking at I was completely embarrassed, not only for what I would have to say but also for women and Wal-mart, For our entire country for that matter. The cover of this magazine had a ton of almost naked celebrity women on it. "Best and worst bod's" is what it said. At first I didn't even know what to say to kenan.  Just stumbled over my words and said "What are you looking at?" Like I didn't already know. Kenan responded and pointed. "Why are those lady's showing their butts"? "Ummmm I don't know"---------I went on to say that people were taking pictures of them and they didn't know it. Kenan kept looking and making comments. I finally turned the two magazines over and told him we don't need to look at things like that.  Not really knowing how to handle the situation.<besides pray for wisdom.

I am totally saddened by this.

The entire time I worked in the salon business it has been smut magazines. Everyone comes to get their hair done and catch up on the "Gossip". I remember so many of my clients saying "Got anything new? I got to catch up on the gossip.". And at one time I was in that trap as well. We would have some magazines delivered weekly and we would all want to get a fresh look before taking it out to the mag post. It has really changed the way I look at things now. I have never really bought them cause they were always at the shop. And now when I see them I think of all the crap they are filled with.  Anymore I think that there is maybe 1 magazine that have an ounce of truth to their stories.

The main reason I don't read or look at them much is because I do feel that I have conviction in my heart about them. I know that in my heart this can not be right. Even if it's just fun here, fun there. I don't feel right anymore. ^It's not ok to read about someone getting a nasty divorce. I can't explain "why" in detail. I just know. For the same reason it is not right for a magazine covered with almost naked women to be right in an area where I am taking my little virgin eyes.<I don't care what any one says. I shouldn't have to talk to my 5year old about sex. But I have to because it's everywhere. It's even in kid movies.

I ask myself. Are there a there hundreds of other people who walk buy the magazine stand and think the same thing? Are there people who are more aware of it when their kids are present? Is there someone out there who had the guts to call up some CEO and give them a piece of their mind. (Cause right about now this christian lady would like to.) WE ARE RAISING KIDS HERE PEOPLE!!!!!!!! Just saying.

One thing I read in a very worldly viewed magazine once. It was talking about the price a celebrity has to pay for being one. And it was more or less attacking the consumer. I cant remember it word for word but it said that a Celebrity can make millions, yet will pay for it with more then money can buy.< It went on to talk about the private moments that a Celebrity is robbed of. <I am not taking a side here just trying to look at the bigger picture. So those of you that would like to protest to this statement. The opinion is yours.

^I want to go on to say also, that as a woman who prays . I feel that it is up to us to pray for these people in these magazines. They are actually human even though sometimes we can't see them as that. And also for the companies that claim to be family oriented. I am also going to pray for these magazines to be removed from this particular area of the store. <But I can take anything to the throne can't I. So I'll just be praying that it just be removed all together

. I get a little riled now and then. I guess you did read it though. ;)

A life time in the Laundry.

I have been doing my laundry for as long as I can remember. My mom always had a basket for each of us and we had to make sure it was folded and then put away. I hated doing laundry then, and I still hate it. I realize "hate" is a strong word, but I think it is more then appropriate for this topic.

Since I have been married, I have been the soul laundry Lady. When we first got married I never even thought to ask Ryan to do the laundry. Then when I finally did, I changed my mind about  real quick. Not because he did a bad job or anything. It's mostly because, for so long I had a system going and when you put a new person on the line, it takes patience I didn't really care to have.

So with that, I have this one secret that has driven me nuts. To the point of just taking care of it after 7 years. Ha ha ha.  For as long as I can remember my parents had the biggest sock basket, when we were growing up. I guess when you have 20 feet to cover at one time that might be normal. But for us kids we HATED to have to sort the sock basket. It was worse then cleaning the bathroom, or the kitchen after a family meal. Which for the record took some time<.  I don't know one of my siblings that would say they enjoyed that job.

^My secret is that I myself have a sock basket. Yes history has rhymed in such an evil way with this one. We have this basket that usually has about 50 sock's at the bottom and then all freshly washed ones that Ryan will grab from the top. Over and over again.
I force myself to go through that thing every couple weeks when the boys or I don't have any sock's.

What has been honestly refreshing is to just throw the ones that have been in there awhile away.< I feel bad saying that but It truly makes me crazy when there is a ton of sock's that no one wears in there. Like the little baby sock's. They have been cycling through that sock basket for to long. And they don't usually have a match.

As a kid when we would go on trips, my mom would always grab us a new bag of sox's. I loved that. Nothing like a brand new pair of sock's. To this day I enjoy buying them. It's just when they go through the laundry and through the sock basket with no match that I get a little nutty.

I am thankful that I am the only girl and loves to have printed sock's^ They are easy to find.....

So if you have a sock basket. Don't be afraid to toss the sock's. If you don't know what old sock's are you are either not married to a man or have some amazing beautiful feet that never sweat.  I for one don't have amazingly good smelling feet and neither do my boys!!!!

Chick's driving dude cars!

I love it when I come driving down the street in my average suv and see a Chick rolling in a 50,000 dollar car.   ( Add a few G's to the price for the one above.)

It's comical really. There is a part of me that says (I hate it when I see chicks riding in a dudes car......Then there is this other part that starts day dreaming about MY DUDE CAR!!!!!  I have always wanted a truck. My sister can tell you that. I loved this old blue toyota truck that belonged to someone in our childhood neighborhood. I always stared at that thing when we drove by. Why? I am not really sure, I was like 12.....

So I had to settle for my dad's work truck my first year of driving. It was an 84 ford pickup that had a super cab and a super topper to cover it.   Two things I was thinking while driving that truck (1) it's huge (2) how am I going to park this thing.  But like I tell my little sister who drives a huge car. You will always have enough room for your friends;) I told myself that, and I now tell her that. She starts laughing and agrees....

When I did get my first car it was a Banana Yellow 78 Buick Regal that my dad had put some sweet racing tires on.< Looking back having rims may have not been the best thing. I got pulled over so many times in that huge car. The cops always thought I was a trouble maker driving that THING. Ohhhh and I always ran out of gas.... <I remember calling my dad one time and him saying "I don't think there is anything wrong with the car"." Just put gas in it. "Ahhh haaa"....Never had car troubles after that. Who knows how many times I was sitting on the side of the road because my car was just out of gas. To many to count.

While we are on the subject of Gas lets talk about these energy efficient  cars. This one is the AIR car.
A compressed air car is a car that uses a motor powered by compressed air. The car can be powered solely by air, or combined (as in a hybrid electric ...

I think we might be going a little 2 far here. LOL...... This looks like a toy I would let my kids play with. And it runs on air.  <I have to give it to technology though that is pretty impressive. I guess if you get hit in this car it will just feel like Those water balls people are into these days.     Right????

If I'm picking The car I'm gonna drive, then these ones will be it!
No one said you can't dream.

I am driving an El camino across country with one of my girlfriends! Or going on a hot date with Mr Wallace.^ He's driving our El Camino.
And you won't be seeing me rolling up at the soccer games with this Mini Van! For this reason I have not gotten one yet. People stare, like I am staring at this one. Laughing so hard!!!< Not entirely true about me never owning one though. I do like pros a mini van has.

When we had Micah I kinda begged Ryan to let us get a Wagoneer. < He said keep dreaming baby we are not getting a gas guzzler. So I dream........    This is my realistic/ non realistic Family car.

Ahh the 2011 Kia Sportage!  I really like this car! <This would just be my car, like HIS AND HER'S!!!

2011 Ford Explorer! Gotta love you a vehicle that has space and looks hot on the road!
This is the Car Ryan get's for me "because I am worth it"....

^I am going to be watching for this car on the road. I want to see it in real life.. I think this is going to be the next Tahoe/suburban.^ Who cares its SWEET.

Hello Bronco!
This is what I would be rolling with my mom in. Or my sisters. >This would be my ultimate DUDE CAR.

.

And once again, UMMMM NO!< FUTURISTIC Japanese Van.

I just feel like everyone should have a Jeep in their life. This is my pick.

Please note that just because I have picked some sweet cars out does not mean I know a hill of beans about them. I just like to look at them and ride in them occasionally. My friend had a sweet Hummer for awhile. It was so much fun to ride in!

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°. Add 1/2 stick butter to a 9-inch square baking dish and melt in the oven, about 5 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and granulated sugar, then whisk in the egg-milk mixture.
  3. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish; bake until the pancake begins to rise, 15 to 20 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, in a medium saucepan, cook the brown sugar, salt and 2 tablespoons water over medium heat, stirring, until bubbling, about 5 minutes. Stir in the remaining 1/2 stick butter, the sour cream and bananas and heat through.
  5. Drizzle the pancake with half of the butterscotch sauce and sprinkle with walnuts. Slice and serve with the remaining sauce on the side.

I have been in to trying new recipes lately. But only if they include ingredients that I already have in the kitchen! < The boys say this one is a keeper:) That is always a good thing for a Lady to hear.  We enjoyed this and I hope you will too.

Many people think that they sound smarter when they use big words. The truth of the matter is that smart communicators use words that (a) they understand and (b) their readers are likely to understand.

The purpose of writing is to communicate. Communication is the process by which meaning is created and exchanged. If the person who reads your writing doesn’t understand what you are trying to say, no communication occurs when he or she reads your writing.

In order to communicate effectively, you have to use language properly, and you have to use language that people are likely to understand.
tLately I have noticed many people misusing the word “detrimental” when what they really mean is “instrumental” or “important.” For example, I read a memo that someone wrote requesting permission to attend a meeting. The memo said, “It is detrimental that I go to the meeting next week.”

Ironically, the misuse of the word implies the exact opposite of what the person meant. Detrimental implies that some negative outcome would be associated with the person’s attendance at the meeting. What the writer meant was “important.”
zealous A misused big word has the opposite effect of making you sound smart! A big word used correctly, but unnecessarily, has the effect of making you sound pedantic. If you have to go get a dictionary to see what “pedantic” means, I have made my point!

Today I pulled up an article on politics and Christianity. I could hardly understand it because of all the words I didn't know. Is it me or did I miss out on all the extra smart words people are using these days.< I know for a fact I have been the person this writer (above) is talking about, more then once. I use words out of context all the time. I think some of it is just the fact that I don't think before I speak. However I do believe that in some cases, there are people out there that are to smart for the common good.

For now I am going to have to start looking up some of these words writers are using now. ^ Cause I'm not following.

Count to see how many of the words from above you actually use. Then post a comment and let me know what your score is. (I found this list on multiple sites.)

Love em' Levi's!

I love them Levi's on my man! I know I am going to get in trouble for saying that later but its to true! Ryan wears a pair everyday and it never gets old to me;)

LEVI'S
They have been a main stay in the Wallace house hold. My boys both have at least 1 pair and my husband's main jean selection is Levi's. Partly because we can find them at a good price and they always fit him right.
I hate it when I see men wearing skinny jeans. I mean if you want to have your man hood, you might want to wear manly jeans. Such as Levis or whatever jean brand that says I am a man. Not a skinny legged man. Not an attribute  most men like to show off. I do know that Levis has a skinny for men. I don't agree. Even if I do like my Kansas boy in a good pair of Levis.
Diapers always look better with a cute pair of jeans covering them. No one can deny that.
My sister Bekah just told me that she bought some LEVI skinny's for her daughter at the store. It was kinda by a little accident her daughter had in the store. But My sister said THEY ARE SOOO CUTE.:) Yup! Can't go wrong with that.

These jeans^ are a good fit.
For myself I love all kinds of jeans. I am not a fan of off brand jeans because they usually are never made correctly and once you wash them a few times you know why. They hug in the wrong areas and cover way to much or to little. They are always to long or to short. After one day of wearing the wrong jean you feel like just giving up all together.

Pockets!!!! If you are looking for a good pair of jeans you need to check the pockets. I can always almost tell if I am going to like them by just looking at the color of denim and then looking at the pockets on the back. < There are many washes that have been over done and can make your thighs look huge and calves look to small. There are pockets that are to close together and also ones that are to far. Some pockets have been bedazzled a little to much and look like they could come a peeling away by just the weight of them.
High waisted jeans can be a plus if you spend a little to get some that fit right. And if you are a little to short or a little to tall you might need to shop at the places that have custom sizes like the Buckle. Some places do sell longs and shorts. But the Buckle will have not only the waist size but the length to almost any shape.^We are talking reasonable prices people, boutiques may have some but are usually over priced for the all american Girls and Boys.

My sister and I were in the Goodwill one day when she brought me a pair of (For all man Kind) I looked at them and said I think those will fit.< Not always a good idea. ha. But its safe to say they DO. I got those for $4.00. That story repeats it self a hundred times over for me. And others that I have snagged a pair for. I guess I do have good fortune there. ha ha

I love to slip into my favorite pair of jeans in the morning. I want others to feel the same way about their jeans too.

Girlie, Girlie....

We have been lucky enough to have my younger sisters baby stay with us for a time. We are going on 3 weeks now and it has been a wild ride! I can honestly say that for myself I have NEVER experienced the full concept of motherhood until now. <Young mother that is. My kids have not reached school age yet.

In the past couple weeks we have been going through mood swings, teething, and one strong will! As much as I can say that my boys do what they can to get their way. Neither one can top little Mia. She has a strong will and a way about getting it! <I can't say that she does not take after her mother or myself for that matter, we are both bull headed in to many ways. And for some reason or the other we can make others pretty miserable because of it.

Ryan's most common response is. What do I do with her? She is fragile and does not want to wrestle like the boys. LOLOLOL.......Of course not. She wants to lay her little head on your shoulder and then play patty cake. Or in most cases she would like to chug the milk in her bottle and have a snack.  Or maybe play in the toilet water.< I walked up to Micah and her drinking it out of their hands the other morning. Yuck.

For me I have to say that 2 kids is a piece of cake. But 3....... that makes the whole world different. Between separating your time for each throughout the day to a simple yet not so simple run to the store. With 3 in the cart you are limited to what you can buy.< Maybe that is a good thing.? Who knows.

Even pink bow's and poka dots is just out of the norm for us. It is fun though:) Her momma will want to smack me for spoiling her but oh well. I am the aunt, we can do things like that.

Nap time is a task and cleaning up the toys is for some reason twice as much work.
The milk is running out by the minute and if I have to open the dumpster one more time to toss a stinky diaper I might pass out by the smell.... Ahhh at least I am cracking myself up about it. Who knows what the garbage man thinks.. Ha ha poor guy.     From rearranging the Christmas tree a few times a day to pj's on pj's off,  I know that some of you mom's with more then a couple kids know exactly what I am talking about. < I have no clue how my mom did it. She had 8 and home schooled us all till I was in high school. What a trip.....  Well its safe to say that as a mom we all say at the end of the day that it is totally worth it. And we have new strength for the morning.

Don't get me wrong I love that there is another girl in our house. She has been a real blessing to us in this time and we wouldn't trade it. She is one fire ball though, that makes 2 of us.  I think  between the 3 boys and us we are an even match. Any more girlie's and we might just take over the steady man hood going on in the Wallace House. Who could deny that sweet face^

Getting Creative with Leftover Rolls from Thanksgiving!

I had made some yeast rolls for thanksgiving day and we had a few left over. This morning the breakfast request was French Toast. Usually I use the same method my mother in-law uses. (French Bread) But since we had some rolls I decided to try it.:) They turned out great. Not that it is very easy mess this simple breakfast delight up. But you never know I have burned a soup before.......You think that would be hard to.

Here's how it goes.

3 eggs
1tbl  vanilla
2 tbl sugar
1/4 cup of milk

Stir with a wisk

Butter each piece of bread and soak it in the mix. Throw it on the skillet!
And you know the rest!!!!!

Enjoy

While I was making this I poured myself some coffee and proceeded to put the pot in the cabinet.... It just made me laugh. I must have been half asleep still or just going crazy.

After a great thanksgiving meal. We toned it down tonight with a family favorite.
Here is a great fast recipe. Hope you will try it out.

total time: 30 min) serves 4

optional > Add a second can of hominy. And squeeze the lime in your bowl.
Serve with french bread.

Enjoy!

My boys even love this soup.

Method Mom!

Lately we have had to find a way to keep Micah in his room during his nap. Previously we used the plastic "Safety First" door covers. We have misplaced those in the move and had to come up with an alternative. We could have bought new ones but I am not like most mothers who like to safety lock everything in the house. Even though at times I think why didn't I just get a stupid lock.? Like on my bedroom door....... Well  Ryan and I have discovered that if we just lock the door, Micah does not unlock it. He has several times so I know that he knows how, but for some reason he won't during his nap time.

As much as this has been a simple method to keeping my 2 year old in his room during nap time. It has been a real cramp in my daily doings around the house. My  husband has decided that locking all the doors that we don't want him roaming in is a good idea. I thought "This could be good". Little did I know that my husband would remember every time he walks out of our room and also bathroom he would be locking the door.

Lucky as we are, the south makes it way to easy to break in. We have placed a penny at the top of each of our upstairs rooms. Including our bathroom that is located in our master.
This morning as I was running up the stairs to grab something from the bathroom. I was stopped by the locked door then as I entered our room I noticed that the bathroom was locked as well. "WOW THOROUGH" Dangit...... While I was trying to find some loose change to unlock the door to the bathroom I was thinking that we are going to have to find another method or hurry little Micah out of this stage.< Or I could just surrender my pride and buy those locks.<<<Nahhh

Decades! the 70's

Church is never boring in the south! We just kicked off a Decades sermon series. This week everyone was dressed up like a hippie or something of that sort. Ryan had on some shoes that he grabbed out of a box that said (pimping Gangster) They were the coolest.... Let me tell ya. They had lion stripes air brushed on them. "Classic" The band preformed a montage of some tunes from the 70's including (Sweet Home Alabama, Jeremiah Was A Bull Frog, Its Along Way To The Top, and also American Pie.) It was something! The girls were snapping there fingers to the beat and adding little movements here and there. What guts I tell ya.< I am such a chicken I was just loving watching.

Matt (John Travolta) did a great Job with the message. He talked about Erosion of authority. It was really cool how he connected it to the decade then also talked about how this generation is one of rebellion. It is really interesting to see how the generations that we have grown up in influences us in such a huge way. I think that it is safe to say that most of us struggle with Authority and also being rebellious. I feel like an idiot saying that I have Rebellion problems, mostly because I am an adult. Since I am an adult I should have learned all the lessons of making simple mistakes and I should not have any problems submitting my will for the greater good. To bad that is so not true. Learning how to obey is a life long lesson, 26 years and I am in full swing. If I could put it into my own words what I would like to obtain. It would be obedience and knowledge and with that wisdom! I love the word Wisdom. This is not including all the other millions of things I want to gain in just one life. I know that God has got some great things for me. I know because he has brought me this far and that is FAR! I also know because I am saved by his grace I have been able to do so much more in my life that I would never have done without the freedom I have in him. <More to come on the decades. Next week is the 80's can't wait!
